Are you trying to lose weight? If so, you’re likely exploring a variety of dietary options and exercising regularly. You may even be pursuing fad diets. You know the kind that you hear about on TV? Regardless of what method you’re using, it’s important to know what works and what doesn’t. In fact, some foods that you may think are healthy and will help you with your aim of weight loss could actually be making the effort more challenging and causing the weight to stay on.
One food people think is healthy but actually isn’t is the revered energy bar. Many people eat these every morning and all day long because they’re supposedly loaded with nutrients. However, they’re much more like a candy bar. Energy bars tend to be loaded with sugars, namely high fructose corn syrup and are very high in fat, which add a load of unnecessary calories to your diet.
Another food that is actually not as healthy as it seems is the smoothie. Yes, they are filled with fruits, which is a good thing. However, if the main agreement ingredient is juice, you’re getting a lot of extra calories there without the fiber you get from the actual fruit.
Eating granola everyday could actually be complicating weight loss as well. Granola cereals are loaded with sugar and don’t have as much fiber as you would think.
Another food, well a drink rather, they you should probably avoid are the vitamin drinks. They are highly sweetened and add a lot of calories to your day. Even if they seem healthy, most aren’t. Drinks like Vitamin Water and Gatorade do little for your health and just make weight loss harder.
It’s important to note fat-free foods could also be causing you problems. People look at these foods as an excuse to eat more, but when you do that, you’re actually consuming about the same as you would before. On that same note, eating salads could be detrimental to your health as well. It’s not the produce in the salad that’s the problem. It’s all of the add-ins that increase the caloric value and decrease the healthfulness. Salad dressings, cheese, bacon bits, and other toppings make it practically impossible to lose weight eating salad.
In short, you just need to be mindful of what you’re eating and thoroughly inspect the nutrition labels. This could save you a lot of grief later when you discover weight loss is harder than you initially thought.
