In those circumstances you need to look at whether there is anything about the situation you can change, shifting your focus to that rather than worrying about factors you cannot control.

Doing things for yourself

For most people doing things solely to suit themselves does not come naturally; however, time to yourself to recharge your batteries and remove yourself from a stressful situation can be a big help. If you are stressed about work, engaging in recreational activities in the evenings is a good idea. If these activities are challenging for you, that is even better, as setting goals for yourself and increasing your confidence will mean that you should be better equipped to cope with stressful situations.

A lot of people think that the best way to deal with stress is to indulge in an unhealthy habit such as smoking, drinking or eating unhealthy food. In truth, many bad habits that are used as a way of coping with one stressful situation are likely to cause stress about other things, ranging from health and self-esteem to money.

The key to dealing with stress is to look at the root cause. When you have identified that, try to see what you can do to change the situation. Use tools such as being physically fit and healthy and having a good mental attitude to help you cope. Hopefully your stress will be relieved as a result, giving you the chance to acquire a happy, relaxed attitude to life.
