Getting Into Shape with Golf

If you’re looking for a new challenge and a fresh new sport to really get your teeth into why not think a little outside of the box and go for golf?
Before I started with the sport I must say I was a little apprehensive. If like me you’re used to high intensity really competitive sports, golf might seem like a step down. I thought the same but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Firstly, your thirst for an element of intensity is found within the concentration needed to play the game well. If you’re having a really good day on the course, the adrenaline is pumping and you’re really in the zone, I haven’t found another sport yet that can parallel the buzz I feel!
If the competitive aspect is a worry for you, fear not; golf delivers all the contest you need. Don’t get me wrong, a casual game can be very relaxing but if you’re in a tournament environment for example, the rivalry can get pretty fierce!

There are some great health benefits to be reaped from a round of golf. Every game improves your overall fitness. Walking over an 18 hole course means you’re are putting in some real exercise without even noticing. Carrying your own clubs is even healthier. Golf makes a great improvement to your overall muscle tone as the specialist techniques call for a finely tuned muscular system. Your endurance is really tested after five or six hours of playing golf, no other sport can offer such a prolonged time of play. If you are looking to lose weight, golf is a great option; I saw the pounds simply fall of when I started playing!

As well as your physical health, mental health is a truly at the heart of the game as blowing of steam is the number one reason for choosing golf as a sport. After a good game of golf I can just feel my worries and stress drift away and really feel like a new person.
Other benefits I have found since trying my hand at golf include meeting new people and keeping in touch with old friends through a shared hobby. To really make a vacation out of the sport, my friends and I check out online golf holiday deals on sites like yourgolftravel.com. Sometimes if you book last minute you can find even more amazing deals!

Golf is a really enjoyable and social sport; I feel it has really helped me develop a sense of community and connectedness for me and my peers.

If I’ve convinced you to give golf a go or you’re just a little interested, why not go ahead and book some lessons? It’s the best way to get started and you can go on your own, with a partner or a group of friends and make a day of it! You might feel it the next day after your first bout of golf, but it will get easier and you will feel the health benefits in no time!
