Run Without Thinking About It

Running can be one of the best ways to shed pounds and get in shape, but it can be one of the most challenging forms of exercise. After all, you’re just pounding the pavement for 20 to 60 minutes, and it can be quite boring. It can be a challenge for you to shut off your mind and just focus on running, but it’s important that you do so. If you can run without thinking about it, it will be much easier to keep on running even after you have tired out and your body is telling you to take a break.

But how can you run without thinking about it?

Listen to Something – If you want to take your mind off the road ahead of you, plug in your headphones before you hit the track, treadmill, or pavement. Listen to your favorite music, or put an audiobook on your MP3 player. You’ll find that listening to a book can help to take your mind off the road, as you’ll follow the story instead of thinking about running. Music may be more invigorating for runners, as they can run along with the beat of the music. However, if you want to take your mind off the run, an audiobook can be your best option.

Play Sports — Sports will be a great way to run without really thinking about it, and it can be one of the most enjoyable ways to get exercise. Soccer is one of the best ways to run, as you can put on your favorite replica soccer jerseys and cleats, play with some friends, and spend a couple of hours running around kicking at a ball. There are few sports that will get you to run more than soccer, but basketball and football are both great running sports. You’ll find that the time will pass quickly, and you’ll be exhausted from running around without even noticing that you’ve been pushing your body.

Run Somewhere – Instead of going for a run on a track or on a treadmill, make a plan to run somewhere. Set a destination that you are going to run towards, and just let your feet carry you as you plod along. It will be much easier if you aren’t keeping track of your progress, but you can let the scenery pass you by as you just run. You can keep your mind off the running if you are focused on just putting one foot in front of the other until you reach your destination.

Don’t Plan Your Path – Many people try so hard to plan their route, and it becomes more of a chore than a joy. Why not just run, letting your feet and your head guide you as you go. Take your mind off the path that you’re taking, and use a GPS watch to track your location. Once you’ve run the right amount of time, you can simply call your spouse or a friend to come and pick you up wherever you are. You’ll be able to run without having to worry about where you’re headed or how far you’ve come.
