Eye Surgery

Lasik eye surgery is done in order to correct your vision and allow you to see clearly even without lenses or glasses. You need to prevent scar tissues after eye surgery. This is important not only for cosmetic reasons but there are some instances where this can even save the vision of a patient. Scarring after an operation is quite a common side effect post an operation and surgeries that are done to treat glaucoma and detached retinas and also to remove cataracts. Surgeries involving glaucoma results in reducing pressure on the optic nerves which are caused by a buildup of fluid in the back of the eye. What a surgeon does is opens a channel in the eye in order to eliminate the fluid that has accumulated and alleviate pressure. If the channel becomes scarred in this process, the buildup of fluid continues and this can result in the patient in losing his eye sight. When your retina is scarred after the removal of lens for cataract surgery, it can result in a reduction in vision and in some cases it can lead to something extreme such as blindness. However, the good news is that there are various ways in which eye scarring can be reduced and also scarring can be prevented after eyelid surgery.

Here are some ways in which you can prevent scarring after an eye surgery.

  • You should consult with your ophthalmologist on consuming proper drugs which works by imitating the immune system of the body in order to prevent scarring in intra ocular region which is the interior of the eye. These drugs are chemically known as polyvalent dendrimer glucosamines and have similarity is structure and function with sugar molecules. Medical tests which are done on their effectiveness generally don’t yield any conclusion.

  • You should discuss about laser surgery done post your operation so that your scar tissues can be burned away after an operation has been done and scarring occurred. You should consult your ophthalmologist who can give you an outline of options and prepare a plan treatment for laser surgery.

  • You should ask your surgeon about the option of placing silicon oil in your eye during the process of initial surgery in order to reduce the amount and effect of scarring in the days which follows the operations immediately. This is the most critical time for preventing any scar formation.

  • You can prevent scar formation after an eyelid surgery if you apply twice each day a lotion which is enriched with Vitamin E or Aloe Vera. You should apply two drops of the lotion over your eyelid using your fingertip

  • You should avoid rubbing the area around your eyes for at least six weeks so that you can reduce the risk of causing additional damage due to scar.

  • You should cover the eyelid surgery scars with makeup if all the methods that you have opted for reducing the scars doesn’t yield optimal results.
