When Are Diet Pills Okay?

Obesity is one of the biggest health issues facing our country today, and many continue to struggle with shedding the pounds needed to achieve a healthy body weight. Staying in shape is hard. Many have poor eating habits that derive all the way back from childhood, and constantly being on the go doesn’t always make it easy to get into the gym. However, without a healthy diet and adequate exercise, you will never be able to maintain an ideal weight.

To help them lose weight, many dieters turn to diet pills. While diet pills can boost energy and promote weight loss, not all of them are safe. The Food & Drug Administration, also known as the FDA, doesn’t regulate diet pills allowing certain diet pill creators the liberty of putting effective, yet harmful, substances in diet supplements.

Anti-obesity drugs operate through one or more of the following mechanisms:

  • Suppression of the appetite.
  • Increase of the body’s metabolism.
  • Interference with the body’s ability to absorb specific nutrients in food.

Over the years, unregulated diet products containing harmful substances such as epinephrine have been removed from the market because they were found to damage a user’s internal organs. Product removals from the market have made many very skeptical of diet pills – especially after several users suffered from death after using products such as Fen Phen.

However, not all diet pills are full of harmful chemicals, and even those that aren’t as naturally based can be just as safe. The Lipozene pill is a compound of all natural supplements used to up fiber and therefore decrease cravings while boosting your metabolism. Adapexin isn’t 100 percent natural, but its chemical make up is based off naturally occurring foods such as raspberries to promote weight loss and a good mood.

While obtaining a healthy weight is something everyone should strive for, not everyone should use diet pills. If you have 10 pounds or less that you are wishing to lose, then you should not consider using diet pills. However, if you have 20 or more pounds that you would like to lose, then a diet pill regimen may be something to consider.

Before deciding on starting a diet pill regimen, those wishing to see weight loss need to consult with their primary physician!

Diet pills are a great way for the overweight or obese to get closer to their goal weight; however, users need to make sure that they are healthy enough to take them. Users should also note that diet pills alone will not reduce their weight. They must use proper diet and exercise in conjunction with the weightloss supplements.

Because of potential side effects, it is recommended that anti-obesity drugs only be prescribed for obesity where it is hoped that the benefits of the treatment outweigh its risks.
