Systematic abuse of alcohol or tobacco is considered the fourth most important risk factor leading to tragic consequences. Globally, it gives way to dystrophy, unprotected sex and high blood pressure. According to a research the risk of smoking and alcoholism are fully comparable. Both significantly exceed the risks of deficiency and diseases. According to international organizations, alcoholism takes almost 10 years of life of men in developing countries. The main risk group is among the young – from 36% to 41% of death cases in age group 15-29 are caused by alcohol abuse.

How does alcohol affect the body?

Alcohol is a depressant, which means it slows down the functioning of the central nervous system. Alcohol actually blocks some of the messages trying to reach the brain. This threatens the human perception, emotions, movement, vision and hearing.

In small amounts, alcohol can help people relax and reduce anxiety. In larger quantities, it causes changes in the brain, which result in intoxication. People, who go too far with drinking, lose coordination and experience difficulty in speaking. They are confused and disoriented. Depending on the person, intoxication can make us very friendly and chatty, or vice versa – aggressive and offensive. The time for reaction is significantly reduced – therefore we are told not to drink while driving. When a person is intoxicated, he may think he is moving properly, but he is not. He can do something without fully realizing it.

When in a short period one takes a large amount of alcohol, the result is alcohol. Usually the first symptom is a hard vomiting. One may experience extreme sleepiness, unconsciousness, difficulty in breathing, dangerously low blood sugar, seizures … and even death.
Nevertheless people do not back down from this “slow poison”. Considering how dangerous it can be, we can at least figure out a nice way to enjoy it in small quantities, for example, cocktails. In addition to alcohol they conclude beneficial natural juices and supplements in large quantities. A very pleasant and even healthy cocktail, for instance, is “Bloody Mary”.
